Finite volume calculation of K-theory invariants

چکیده
Odd index pairings of K1-group elements with Fredholm modules are of relevance in index theory, differential geometry and applications such as to topological insulators. For the concrete setting of operators on a Hilbert space over a lattice, it is shown how to calculate the resulting index as the signature of a suitably constructed finitedimensional matrix, more precisely the finite volume restriction of what we call the spectral localizer. In presence of real symmetries, secondary Z2-invariants can be obtained as the sign of the Pfaffian of the spectral localizer. These results reconcile two complementary approaches to invariants of topological insulators.

Applications of Algebraic Topology to Compatible Spatial Discretizations
We provide a common framework for compatible discretizations using algebraic topology to guide our analysis. The main concept is the natural inner product on cochains, which induces a combinatorial Hodge theory. The framework comprises of mutually consistent operations of differentiation and integration, has a discrete Stokes theorem, and preserves the invariants of the DeRham cohomology groups...
متن کاملAlexander Polynomial, Finite Type Invariants and Volume of Hyperbolic Knots
We show that given n > 0, there exists a hyperbolic knot K with trivial Alexander polynomial, trivial finite type invariants of orders ≤ n and such that the volume of the complement of K is larger than n. We compare our result with known results about the relation of hyperbolic volume and Alexander polynomials of alternating knots. We also discuss how our result compares with relations between ...
متن کاملViscosity Calculation of Supercritical Gases Based on the Rainwater-Friend Theory and the Modified Enskog Theory
A new correlation function for the calculation of viscosity for five typical supercritical gases is presented using the rainwater-Friend and modified Enskog theory. It is shown that by using accurate value for the thermal pressure and co-volume in the modified Enskog theory, this correlation function is suitable for calculation of the viscosity of supercritical gases, without any density an...
متن کاملRelative non-Normal Graphs of a Subgroup of Finite Groups
Let G be a finite group and H,K be two subgroups of G. We introduce the relative non-normal graph of K with respect to H , denoted by NH,K, which is a bipartite graph with vertex sets HHK and KNK(H) and two vertices x ∈ H HK and y ∈ K NK(H) are adjacent if xy / ∈ H, where HK =Tk∈K Hk and NK(H) = {k ∈ K : Hk = H}. We determined some numerical invariants and state that when this graph is planar or...
متن کاملSymbolic Veriication with Gap-order Constraints
Finite state automata with counters are useful for modeling systems with discrete parameters. The calculation of state invariants is an important tool in the analysis of such systems. Previous authors have presented techniques for the calculation of state invariants based on their approximation by convex polyhedra. In this paper we present a new method for the calculation of invariants for nite...
